This scene depicts a Lockheed L.1649A Constellation banking over Paris in evening light.
Air France operated ten of the L.1649A models, calling them “Super Starliners”.
The range of the Starliner was greater than any contemporary airliner at 5,650 miles
with a 10,000 pound payload.
The airline inaugurated trans-polar service between
Paris and Tokyo via Anchorage on April 10, 1958. F-BHBK was Air France’s first L.1649A.
Service life was prematurely short as a result of being replaced by the Boeing 707,
and all ten of Air France’s Super Starliners were scrapped by the late 60’s.
A superb copy of this painting is now available in a Giclee artist quality canvas print, from a signed & numbered limited edition of 700 prints.
